Ajit, Anju emerge best in inter-college swimming

Ajit Kumar Jena of S N College (Rajkanika) and Anju Karodia of local Deba Ray College (Nayapalli) emerged overall individual champions in men and women categories of the Utkal University Inter-College Swimming Championship, which was hosted by Government College of Physical Education (Bhubaneswar) here at Biju Patnaik Swimming Complex (Kalinga Stadium) yesterday.

Ajit won titles in 50, 100, 200 meter freestyle and 50 metre backstroke. Anju stood first in 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke. Sarbeswar Sahoo of Girala College was second most successful swimmer in men`s category, securing first position in 50m breststroke, 100m backstroke and 200m medley.

S N College won the men`s team title, while Birala College finished runners-up. The team title in women`s group was claimed by Deba Ray Colllege, while PG Vani Vihar ended runners-up. Altogether 48 competitors, including 12 women, participated in the championship, which was revived after a gap of 19 years. Dr Man Mohan Rout, Principal, GCPE and senior government swimming coach Surendra Naik handed over the prizes at the closing ceremony.
